Description
This soft sweet wine is made from Pedro Ximenez grapes that are traditionally sun-dried on mats. This artisanal process is known as ‘asoleo’. The wine is aged for 12 months in earthenware barrels, the so-called ‘tinajas’. The Alvear Pedro Ximenez de Añada tastes rich and lusciously sweet with pleasant notes of honey, raisins and dried dates. Best served at around 12-14 degrees Celsius. This PX can be preserved for a long time, certainly until 2030+.
Goes well with sweet desserts and also delicious with a cheese board. The PX de Añada always scores very well with Parker. The 2018 has not yet been rated but the 2014 received a whopping 96 points.
Alvear was founded in 1729 and has always been owned by the same family. Alvear owns about 300 hectares of vineyards in the Montilla-Moriles appellation. Anyone who visits the area will recognise the incredible white soils, dominated by lime/slate, which determine the acidity of Alvear wines.
COLOUR : Brilliant clear amber
NOSE : Clean, light and superbly stylish, it is a pure raisin wine that combines a full aroma of raisins and dates with a pleasant fruitiness, a honey backbone and a slight hint of orange rind.
PALATE : Rich in dried fruit nuances and toasty hints of skins, with fresh overtones, rosemary honey. Unctuous palate.
