A very aromatic variety of grape that produces excellent dessert wines and of course many find dry white wines. It is most commonly associated with German wines but is also found and used elsewhere most notably Austria and Alsace. Often found with a significant depth of flavour that echoes orchards of blossoming apple and hives of honey. One critic famously noted “petrol” as a haunting theme which may seem negatively critical but has an accuracy that doesn’t detract from the attractiveness of this grape.
