The Red that thinks it’s a white or alcoholic Ribena are 2 ways I like to describe this outstanding and very popular wine. Made from the Dornfelder grape, harvested early and the skins are left on the grapes while fermentation starts and removed soon after allowing the colour (which comes from the skin) to leach out into the wine giving it a good colour but not allowing too much tanin to remain, the fermentation continues without the skins but is stopped before all th natural sugar is fermented leaving a residual sweetness to the wine. drunk young and served chilled, this is great on it’s own, alfresco dining or with oriental food.
