This is a big, full bodied, full on style of premium McLaren Vale Shiraz with heaps of rich fruit and a lick of spice. It’s what they call a “winemaker’s wine” – the kind of red a winemaker keeps tucked away in the wine rack. And you can see why, this has class written all over it and one seriously bloody delicious drop.
Scoring 93/100 and a Top Rank award with Huon Hooke for the Real Review, he quite simply called it “A very smart, full-bodied and cellarworthy shiraz”. It also took out the Trophy for Champion Shiraz at the Royal Sydney Wine Show!
Using select parcels of fruit from Shingleback’s wicked Davey Estate vineyard, then aged 15 months in American oak, they then assess individual barrels to select the best of the best for the final blend. It’s a wine that’ll stand the test of time – up until 2034.
Select parcels of fruit from Shiraz vines grown across the Davey Estate Vineyard are handcrafted to maximise the potential of each unique batch. Maturation for 15 months in 1 – 5 year old, fine grained American (80%) and French (20%) oak hogsheads softens, enhances and integrates the fruit and structural components of the wine. Individual barrel selection is carried out to create the final blend.
