Description
The Riesling grapes for this crisp, fresh wine are grown on marl-clay and weathered limestone soils and harvested early in the morning. After a short time macerating, the grapes are gently pressed and the juice allowed to begin a natural fermentation in stainless steel. The nose shows apple and citrus, the palate shows just a touch of richness (the wine has 5g/l of sugar in it) but finishes dry with a hint of minerality.
With young winemaker Stefan Winter at the helm, Weingut Winter has experienced a real breakthrough in the last decade. The talented winemaker from Rheinhessen has enchanted with individual wines whose minerality and cleanliness simply inspire. Stefan has managed to get his winery into the circle of German Pradikatsweinguter (VDP) and brought Weingut Winter to the top of Germany’s quality wine production designation. The estate is located in the town of Dittelsheim-Hessloch (Bereich Wonnegau) at the foot of the Kloppberg in the Rheinhessen region. Stefan, who took over the winery from his father in 2000 comments With a lot of patience and only with the help of wild yeast indigenous to the vineyard, I concentrate on emphasizing the undiluted potential of the grapes. Stefan Winter is also a founding member of the wine group ‘Message in a bottle’, which groups around twenty young wine makers from Rheinhessen in their quest for quality and renovation.
