Torres San Valentin was created by third generation Miguel Torres Carbó as a gift to his wife, Margarita Riera, on Saint Valentine’s Day, as a wine to take on summer walks and picnis. It is an off-dry style of white wine with aromatic floral and ripe fruit character. In the UK is probably best known as the white wine that everyone drinks when they are on holiday in Tenerife! An ideal gift for Valentine’s Day perhaps.
The Torres family has been making wine in the ancient Catalán town of Vilafranca del Penedès, south-west of Barcelona, since the 17th Century. It is this tradition combined with innovation, dynamism and commitment to quality that has put Torres firmly on the world map. Today the Torres Family have vineyards all over Spain with estates in Rioja and Priorat amongst other regions. There are also branches of the family in Chile with Miguel Torres Chile and in California at Marimar Estate
Torres San Valentin is made mainly from a grape variety called Parellada and a little Garnacha Blanca. The Parellada grape, the best traditional white variety found in Torres’ highest vineyards, produces fruity, aromatic wines with moderate alcoholic strength. After harvest the grapes are vinified in temperature controlled stainless steel and undergo a cool fermentation for 15 days at around 16 to 17C.
Torres San Valentin is also suitable for both vegetarians and vegans.
