Zinfandel makes superb rich and full red wines though its name has been somewhat tarnished by the sickly-sweet Californian rosé wine sold under the rather odd name of “white Zinfandel.” It is though, of course, a classic red grape that produces some classy, full, and powerful red wines.
Delicato Family Vineyards has been established over 90 years and owns vineyards across the central valleys of California. Grapes for this wine were selected from old vines in premium vineyards with the fruit quickly vinified after harvest to preserve the full, fruit-forward character of these grapes. The wine was then lightly oaked to add backbone and structure.
This produces a soft, velvety red wine, with lots of juicy, cranberry, blueberry fruit, together with deep plum flavours, all overlaid with a hint of sweet mocha and vanilla. The tannins are superbly integrated and the wine has a very long and satisfying finish.
