Made primarily from Tempranillo grapes grown in the Rioja Alta sub-region, around the beautiful and historic town of Haro – regarded as “The Wine Capital” of Rioja.

The quality of the wines from Rioja Alta is due to its privileged location: clay and calcareous soils, semi-dry climate and protection from old North winds by the Sierra de Cantabria mountains. This, plus age-old wine traditions and the value-added of new technology, produces world class wines in the D.O.C.

Using fruit from Carlos Serres vineyards around Haro and Briones along with fruit from other selected growers, this Rioja is made to a newer style by winemaker Roberto de Carlos. The wine was traditionally fermented and aged in tank for 6 months. It was then aged for a further 6 months in French and American oak before back blending to produce the final wine. This places it beyond “Rioja tinto” level and almost to Crianza quality.

Intense ruby red with notable violet flashes. On the nose there is an abundance of ripe red fruits, predominantly raspberry and strawberry, typical of a red Rioja Alta. On the palate there are blackberry and dark cherry fruit flavours coupled with medium acidity and beautifully integrated tannins. This wine has softened with its slight bottle ageing.  The finish is medium in length, and shows good, clean vivacious fruit with that typical “vanilla and strawberry” Rioja flavour.
