Description
Clear and bright golden yellow colour , the nose is of marmalade and honey with flavours of yellow peach and pineapple, broom and honey. A long length with a clean honeyed peach finish.
A sweet wine appellation, Monbazillac is a few miles south of Bergerac, on clay-limestone soils, on north facing slopes rising up from the Dordogne river at about 4 kms distant. It is this exposure that accounts for the unique character of its wines – in autumn morning mists form over the river and flow up the slopes, they are slow to clear until the sun is high in the sky, but by this time the magic of noble rot has occurred. The shrivelled grapes are picked in tries in October.
The wines can be varietal semillon, or with semillon as the major component in a blend with suavignon blanc and/or muscadelle.
